Shanghai Imports First 4,500-ton Kiwifruits from New Zealand
05/12/2020

On April 1, about 4,500 tons of kiwifruits from New Zealand were unloaded from a bulk-cargo ship at Yangshan wharf in Shanghai. These kiwifruits, packed in over 1 million retail boxes, were the first consignment of kiwifruits from New Zealand to China since 2020.

To ensure fast clearance, Shanghai Customs provided a special fast track for the import kiwifruits, approving relevant Entry Quarantine Permit upon the application of the importer. Local Yangshan Customs House made advance deployment in collaboration with the freight forwarder and port operator concerned, with personnel stationed at the unloading site to inspect the kiwifruits, including the sample test in lab, upon their arrival.

Reportedly, China is one of the major markets of New Zealand kiwifruits, 65% of which is expected to be imported via Shanghai this year.
