Shantou Customs Seizes 96-Ton Illicit Used Clothing

This March, Shantou Customs, together with other law-enforcement administrations, destroyed 5 foreign wastes warehouses in Shanwei City, seizing 960 bundles of used clothing, totally about 96 tons.

Those used clothing were smuggled from abroad, unidentified in origin and without quarantine or sterilization. Some lawbreaking vendors were selling them on the domestic market after re-cleaning, ironing and packaging.

This move signaled the first victory of Shantou Customs in the Blue Sky campaign against smuggling of wastes. For the campaign, the Customs has enhanced prevention and suppression efforts by multi-way investigating local used-clothing business and cooperating with local administrations.

The warehouse was filled with used clothing, unknown in origin.

Smuggled second-hand clothing, without being quarantined or sterilized, contains invisible risks.
