Recently, Ningbo Customs intercepted 26 tons of transgenic bean pulp in an import empty container at the Meishan wharf. Through the import inspection, customs officers found the empty container overweight and, by opening it, seized the bean pulp inside, which was later identified to contain genetically-modified organism (GMO) ingredients and other pests.
Regarding import fodder such as transgenic bean pulp, China takes double control by entry-exit animal/plant quarantine and GMO security assessment, i.e. the import must be accompanied by the Entry-Exit Animal/Plant Quarantine Permit issued by the GACC and the Agricultural GMO Security Certificate (Import) issued by the Ministry of Agriculture.
