Vice Minister Sun Yibiao Holds a Meeting with President of Canada Border Services Agency

On May 30, Vice Minister Sun Yibiao met with Mrs. Linda Lizott-MacPherson, President of Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) in Ottawa, Canada. Vice Presidents of CBSA who are in charge of oversea program, operation and human resources branches respectively also attended the meeting.

 

Both sides highly valued customs cooperation and agreed that a closer and more pragmatic relationship was conducive to the security and facilitation of the trade supply chain of both countries. Meanwhile, CBSA proposed to enhance exchanges and cooperation on customs inspections over cross-border e-commerce.

 

Both sides have also reached consensus on a number of issues. Firstly, both sides should continue to explore cooperation on mutual recognition of inspections, mutual assistance of enforcement, mutual exchange of information. Secondly, both sides should strengthen engagement related to trade facilitation, including communications of risk management and AEO mutual recognition. Thirdly, joint fight should be enhanced against the smuggling of marihuana, new psychoactive substance and narcotics, and other illegal activities including commercial frauds and Intellectual Property Right infringement, etc.

 

Straight after the meeting with President Lizott-MacPherson, Vice Minister Sun and Vice President of CBSA Martin Bolduc co-chaired an in-depth discussion on a number of issues, including AEO mutual recognition negotiations, joint efforts in the fight against the smuggling of narcotics, guns and ammunition under bilateral or multi-lateral frameworks. Senior officials of CBSA from key areas also attended the meeting.
