Nanjing Customs Seizes Piranha Specimens Carried by Foreign Sailor
10/09/2019

Customs seizure of piranha specimens

Recently in Nanjing Customs District, after a Norwegian ship entered the port of Changshu, a disembarking Philippine sailor was intercepted by customs officers because they found 2 specimens of piranhas in his luggage. The sailor told that the 2 specimens were bought in Brazil earlier.

According to China law, any animal specimen is prohibited from being carried and posted into the country, so Changshu Customs House detained the piranha specimens by explaining relevant regulations to the foreign sailor.

The piranha is a small, fierce fish inhabiting South American rivers. With sharp teeth, they eat flesh and attack animals in the water.

Customs reminder: Without official permit, animal specimens bought at abroad are prohibited from entry.
