Customs seizure of live beetles in inbound mails
Recently in Jinan Customs District, customs officers seized 6 live beetles in inbound mails at local Post Office. These beetles from abroad, were identified to belong to Lucanus and Eupatorus hardwickei and have been detained under investigation by the Customs.
In recent years, Jinan Customs has frequently intercepted “new types of pets” such as beetles, spiders and centipedes in the mails from abroad. As per the Catalogue of Animals, Plants and Relevant Products Prohibited from being Carried and Posted into China, live animals, carcasses and animal specimens are prohibited from such entry, except the dogs and cats accompanied by official quarantine and vaccination certificates. Un-quarantined external species can pose serious harm to domestic eco-environment and human health. Therefore, Customs authority reminds that the citizens must not carry or post such foreign “pets” into the country.
