On October 30, 2015, an opening ceremony was held for Chongming Customs House affiliated to Shanghai Customs District.
The Chongming Customs House, formerly known as Chongming Office affiliated to Shanghai Customs District, was founded in 1996. It mainly undertakes import/export clearance, enterprise registration, and processing trade control within its jurisdiction and has promoted economic and cultural exchanges between Yangtze River delta region and the outside world.
With original functions in order, Chongming Customs House has also taken some new duties such as port entry-exit control, in charge of inbound/outbound cargos in Changxing Island Port Operating Area (east coast) and inbound/outbound ships around Chongming region.
This Customs House, transformed from a local customs to a port-based one, will play a bigger role in promoting the development of Chongming export-oriented economy, as well as the opening-up of Changxing Island Port Operating Area, etc.
