Recently in Nanjing Customs District, over 80 tons of Manganese ore with excessive radiation were returned abroad by one vessel under the control of Lianyungang Customs House.

Through field inspection with portable radiation monitor, customs officers found these inbound Manganese ore out of limit in radioactivity: their γ-ray dose equivalent was 35 times more than the radioactive background, going against China’s environmental standard. Immediately, this batch of ore was sampled and physically isolated. With excessive radiation shown by lab test, the Customs House conducted the return abroad.
