Customs interception of Indian cardamoms that are prohibited from entry
On November 7, Zhakou Customs House (subordinate to Gongbei Customs District) intercepted an inbound passenger carrying Indian cardamoms that totaled 11.6 kilograms and 65,000 pieces or so. Because the passenger evaded declaration and quarantine procedures, the Customs detained and destroyed those cardamoms by law.
As per the “Catalogue of Animals, Plants,Animal and Plant Products and Other Quarantine Objects Prohibited from being Carried or Posted into China”, foreign plant materials with reproductive capacity, such as seeds and seedlings, are prohibited from entry owing to the high risk of transmitting pests.
