Wuhan’s Export & Import Values Increased in April after Lockdown Lift

Since the lockdown was lifted on April 8, Wuhan City (Hubei Province) has quickly recovered its foreign trade. According to Wuhan Customs statistics for April, the City’s export-import value totaled 20.89 billion yuan, up 27.4% year-on-year (YOY) and up 71.8% month-on-month (MOM), including export value 10.02 billion yuan, up 9.9% YOY and up 1.3 times MOM; import value 10.87 billion yuan, up 49.2% YOY and up 40.8% MOM.  

 

From January till April, Wuhan’s export-import value totaled 60.52 billion yuan, down 4.9% YOY. 

 

After the lockdown lift, foreign logistics recovered. In April, Wuhan’s export and import by air transport totaled 7.73 billion yuan, up 80.7% YOY; export and import by road transport totaled 6.24 billion yuan, up 59.9% YOY.

 

Private enterprises’ export-import value increased by 35% YOY, with a contribution of 57.5% to the City’s export-import growth and particularly that of 222% to the City’s export growth.

 

New trading modes were expedited. Export by market purchase increased by 10.2 times YOY, and import by cross-border e-commerce increased by 62.9% YOY; export and import by Wuhan Pilot FTZ increased by 43% YOY, accounting for 42.2% of the City total.

 

The pillar industries like automobile, electronics and steelmaking had strong exports and imports, with exported cellphones increased 31% YOY, tablet computers increased 45.4% YOY, auto parts increased 33.3% YOY and steel products increased 20.2% YOY; imported semi-conductor manufacturing equipment worth 1.74 billion yuan, an increase of 1.1 times YOY.

 

Anti-epidemic supplies were exported in quantities: textile products including masks increased by 20.8 times YOY, garment including protective suits increased by 40%, medicines increased by 27.6%, and lab testing kits increased by 42.9 times. 

 

With consumer demands increasing, Wuhan-imported consumer products increased by 57.6% YOY, including pork increased by 15.8 times, both soybeans and rice exceeding 40,000 tons.
