On July 1, at 10 a.m. or so, at Jiuzhou Customs House (affiliated to Gongbei Customs District) Tax Refund Point, Hong Kong passenger Mr. Bao finished tax refund formalities within 5 minutes. It was the first case of tax refund on external passenger exit conducted by Jiuzhou Customs House.
Mr. Bao said that he bought a wristwatch at Zhuhai Jida Tax-Free Shop for RMB690. When leaving via Jiuzhou port, Mr. Bao applied to the Customs for tax refund. Through Customs formalities, he was refunded RMB62.1 at a bank service point and then exited.
From July 1, Zhuhai City formally implemented the tax refund on exit for external passengers. According to this policy, foreigners and compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan who stay no more than 183 days in China, after paying no less than RMB500 for commodities at designated shops with“Tax Free”sign, can apply for tax refund at the rate of 11% on their exit by submitting the purchase invoice and refund application form. After deduction of bank service fee of 2%, the final refund will be 9% of commodity sale price.
