Guangzhou Customs Seizes 5 Cases of Illegally Carrying Ivory Products Inward within 9 Days

At Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, Customs officers successively seized 5 cases of illegally carrying ivory products in passenger entry channel within 9 days from January 7 to 15. With the seized products totaling 82 pieces and 2,064 grams, all the 5 cases involved the inbound flights from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and intentional concealment by the passengers.  

 

As per the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and China’s Law on Protection of Wild Animals, it is illegal for passengers to carry or post such endangered species products as ivory inward and outward without official permits for import and export, and the legal liability is to be prosecuted.
