On July 22, under the field supervision of Weihai Customs House (affiliated to Qingdao Customs District), the first 122 postal parcels from Inchon, South Korea were smoothly cleared at Weihai Port, Shandong Province, marking the opening of the first China-South Korea seaway postal express.
The “Weihai-Inchon” route that enables the ships to start at dusk and arrive at dawn is the shortest postal express line by sea between China and South Korea, lowering freight costs by more than 70% in comparison with air freight, which makes the concept come true, “shipping posts in the time equivalent to that by air and at the price equivalent to that by sea”. The opening of this new route will not only give full play to Weihai city’s geographical advantage and radiation effect, but also play an important role in boosting the city’s trade with South Korea as well as its logistic and warehousing developments.
“Through this ocean express line, postal items from South Korea can be directly delivered to Weihai and efficiently cleared at the Customs House,” said Zhang Yong, Director of Postal Office stationed by Weihai Customs House.
Weihai is China’s sole demonstration area for China-South Korea Free Trade Zone. Along with the booming trade between the two countries, business volumes have been growing rapidly in bilateral postal service market. From now on, Weihai Customs House will further serve China-South Korea seaway postal express and cross-border e-commerce to expand full advantages of customs clearance between Weihai and South Korea by sea, air and post.
