Since October, Guangzhou Customs has seized 6 illegal cases of passengers’ carrying ivory products into Baiyun International Airport, involving 30 ivory ones like bracelets, strings of beads and chopsticks, totaling 1,159 grams in weight, which have been put under further investigation.

On the morning of Oct 10, in control of an inbound flight from Kenya, the Airport Customs seized 3 strings of ivory beads through out-of-box inspection of a passenger’s luggage and furthermore seized 4 ivory articles from the passenger’s body, which had been sewn into his underpants.

From another flight on the morning of Oct 7, the Airport Customs seized 4 ivory entries and intercepted 18 ivory products totaling 620 grams, some of which were concealed in a milk-powder can.

Customs reminder: In accordance with the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) and China’s Law on Protection of Wild Animals, endangered species and their products such as ivory are prohibited from being traded, carried and posted across borders without special Import/Export Permit, or the law breaker may be subject to criminal prosecution.
