Shijiazhuang Customs Cracks Maritime Smuggling of Frozen Food
07/18/2019

By working with China Coast Guard, Shijiazhuang Customs District cracked a maritime smuggling of frozen food on June 28. The officers busted 8 criminal suspects, detained 52 refrigerating containers with more than 1,500 tons of frozen food such as beef, cattle back-straps and cattle tripe. This smuggling case involved 50 million yuan in value.

Aboard the smuggling ship from Korea, customs officers found that the frozen beef was originating in Brazil, unlisted into export-to-China meat products from compliant countries or regions and without import quarantine licence, thus being prohibited from import and that the food was not totally frozen during the entire shipment, thus being substandard in food safety.

Now, this case is under further investigation.
