Shanghai Customs Seizes 226-Tons Illegal Inbound Solid Waste
07/16/2020

Recently, Shanghai Customs handled an illegal case of import-banned solid waste that was declared as zinc oxide in two batches, totaling 226 tons and worth 640,000 yuan.

Through cargo inspection and technical identification, the black particle-powder compound, containing metal sheets or wires, was confirmed by the Customs to be smelting slag with zinc and copper, belonging to solid waste prohibited from import as per the standard for identification.

According to China law, entry and import of prohibited or restricted solid waste must be returned abroad under customs control and be subject to administrative fine (of 100,000-one million yuan) and, in serious cases, should be subject to criminal liability.
