[Yang Xiaoyan]: Actually, there is no sexism in the Customs. The Customs’ recruitment and examination for public servants is fair, open and just. Every year, there are many ambitious and capable women joining the customs officers in Shenzhen Customs District after the recruitment examination. In the Customs, some positions are really harder and more energy-consuming. For instance, at the anti-smuggling department, they often go on business trips and work overtime. For offshore anti-smuggling operations, the officers may even face the life risks; at some ports of passenger inspection, they work round the clock; for some posts of the cargo inspection, the working conditions are harsh, and they may work under extreme temperature or inhale tail gas, etc. However, the female customs officers are performing as well as the male customs officers in those difficult positions currently. 03/07/2014 11:05:31

I used to read a report that some girls were cheated by their foreign boyfriends and carried drugs. However, as for the port passenger inspection, such tendency is not so obvious. [Yang Jie]: To spend a day with tea and newspaper might be the situation nearly a dozen years ago. Over the last decade, as the Chinese society developed fast, the work load and requirements for public servants are no longer the same as the situation one decade ago.
