Nice Life with Female Charisma - Focus on Customs Female Officers for March 8 Women’s Day
[Yang Jie]: One case impressed me very much. It was a drug smuggling case involving three members of a family from a country in Southeast Asia. Two brothers and the younger brother’s wife went through formalities for customs clearance in succession. When accepting the inspection, the younger brother was so nervous that he could not answer questions properly. When we asked whether he had any companion, he looked toward his wife unconsciously, but shook his head and said no. Then, we immediately intensified the inspection for customs clearance and took the two passengers from Southeast Asia after him to the inspection area for further checking. Finally, we found that the three persons were two brothers and the younger brother’s wife. They tried to enter China with heroin hidden in their bodies. 03/07/2014 10:40:14
[Yang Jie]: When the police took them away upon completion of the preliminary investigation, one tiny action made me feel wordless and even sad. Before getting onto the van, the elder brother took off the new pair of leather shoes, wrapped them in a piece of worn clothing taken from his luggage bag, and put on a pair of old and shabby slippers with fading color. His action surprised all the people around him then. One policeman could not help but said “it is all because of the poverty! They become reckless in desperation just for a pair of shoes and a small sum of money!” The three were made use of by the drug-trafficking group and played as the “mule” to transport drugs into China. 03/07/2014 10:40:45
[Wang Hua]: It’s really hard to believe such a case. For a small amount of money, the three people were utilized by the drug dealer and became the tool of drug trafficking. Since you have to face so many people and so many different circumstances every day, have you ever met with any danger? Did you feel frightened then? 03/07/2014 10:41:17
[Yang Xiaoyan]: At work, I also encountered some dangerous circumstances. For instance, some “parallel traders” threatened in the face of customs officers with words like “if you take off your uniform, you won’t be able to walk out of the building”; some “parallel traders” waited for customs officers outside, trying to attack them; some “parallel traders” punctured the tires of the cars of customs officers; and some “parallel traders” even beat the customs officers on the spot. In anti-drug efforts, we may encounter bigger dangers. Once, a customs officer was bit by a drug smuggler. If the drug smuggler had suffered any infectious disease such as AIDS, the customs officer will be in danger. 03/07/2014 10:42:08
[Yang Xiaoyan]: I encountered a “parallel trader” threatening for suicide with a knife. With dozens of mobile phones concealed on his body, the suspect appeared to have an especially thick waist and it was not easy for him to move. Then, I inspected him carefully. When I required him to take off his overcoat for further inspection, he suddenly took out a knife from his waist bag, and threatened to kill himself. The situation was very tense then. I felt upset, too. But I calmed down soon, explained to him about the relevant law and regulations, and analyzed the stake for him. I told him it was a routine check and hoped him to cooperate with us. Slowly, he put down the knife. At last, we found 50 brand-new Samsung and IPHONE mobile sets on him. 03/07/2014 10:42:30
[Wang Hua]: It seems that you have to keep alert at various extreme acts of the smugglers when at work! Xiaoyan, since Luohu is a place where smuggling activities by “parallel traders” frequently occur, do you often encounter cases of smuggling by “parallel traders”? 03/07/2014 10:43:16
[Yang Xiaoyan]: In our work, we deal with “parallel traders” almost every day. There are various sorts of parallel traders, such as full-time parallel traders engaging in smuggling on a long-term basis, part-time parallel traders to smuggle goods for extra money during their spare time, and the vulnerable group, the elders, women, children and even pregnant women, under manipulation of the heads of parallel traders . I remember that I used to inspect a woman who hid over HK$ 900,000 on her. When in the room to frisk her, she slipped a small stack of money into my bag and told me it was HK$ 100,000. I refused her right away. 03/07/2014 10:45:02
[Wang Hua]: When at your post, you have to face not only hardships but also threats and temptations from the smugglers! There are so many people entering and exiting China every day, so you are very busy at work. Then what about your time off work? How do you spend your spare time? 03/07/2014 10:45:16
[Yang Xiaoyan]: In my spare time, I often do the housework, read some books, take exercise outdoors and sometimes take part in the activities organized by our Customs or call my colleagues to climb hills or play balls. In a word, in addition to working happily, I enjoy my life and I’d like to share such emotion of enjoyment with friends and colleagues. 03/07/2014 10:45:59
[Yang Jie]: The arrangements of my time off work are similar to Xiaoyan’s. I do not have much spare time. So l spend most of my spare time staying with my family, or reading books, and sometimes participating in some voluntary activities, such as the care-for-the-young activities organized by the Provincial Youth League and help-the-poor activities in the poverty-stricken mountainous areas. 03/07/2014 10:46:04
