Border Trade Promotion by Kunming Customs District in Yunnan Province
[Wang Hua]: Specifically, what are the benefits brought by the exchange trade between border residents? 06/05/2014 9:50:26
[Ma Jun]: The exchange trade between border residents plays a positive role in making the border areas more prosperous and the border residents wealthier, developing the economy and maintaining the stability there. Its benefits are mainly shown in the following three aspects:Firstly, it meets the daily living needs of border residents, simplifies the circulation of materials, and reduces the living costs of border people. The border residents can make trading directly in the exchange trade zones, and get some income to improve their living standard. In this way, the problems of poverty and backwardness are effectively alleviated. 06/05/2014 9:52:00
[Ma Jun]: Secondly, it activates the border economy, attracts investment, and stimulates the development of tourism and relevant industries. In this way, a hierarchical industrial chain is formed, the employment of border residents is improved, and the construction of basic infrastructure is enhanced. 06/05/2014 9:52:14
[Ma Jun]: Thirdly, it promotes the friendship and mutual trust between China and the neighboring countries, enhances the border stability and cooperation with the neighboring countries, and help effectively implement the diplomatic principles of the Central Government for developing secure, amicable and prosperous coexistence with the neighboring countries, and ultimately create a favorable international environment for development. 06/05/2014 9:53:04
[Wang Hua]: I read a report last year. It tells a story about a resident on the China-Myanmar border who becomes wealthy by enjoying the policy of the exchange trade for border residents. Mr. Xu, can you tell us something about that story? 06/05/2014 9:53:34
[Xu Minghai]: There are many similar stories in this regard. Do you refer to the story of villager Huang Chunlian in Qingshuihe village of Mengding town? 06/05/2014 9:53:59
[Wang Hua]: Yes, I mean this person. 06/05/2014 9:54:16
[Xu Minghai]: OK, I will tell you the story. Huang Chunlian began to engage in the exchange trade between border residents in 2003. The State stipulates that each border resident can only apply for exit and entry once per day. So she went to the border trade fairs in early morning each day, took some vegetables grown by herself to sell in Myanmar, and then bought some Myanmar fruits back. 06/05/2014 9:54:46
[Xu Minghai]: She told us that in recent years, with the increase of duty-free quotas, exchange trade between border residents has undergone great changes. The transport means has changed from rickshaws to small tractors, the participants have changed from individuals to families, and the incomes have changed from several hundred RMBs per month to about a hundred RMBs per day now. As the income increased, her family built a house and bought a car, and she became one of the able women in the village. 06/05/2014 9:55:13
[Xu Minghai]: As far as I know, Huang Chunlian is just one of the many border residents who participate in the exchange trade between border residents, and there are many similar examples. It is because of the favorable national policy that the border residents have such a way to become wealth. The Customs will certainly implement the policy and support the development of trade in border areas. 06/05/2014 9:55:57
